Brioles (1991)
This eight-track mini album is the first release from Barcelona's BRIOLES. Even though coming from a straight 50's inspired Rockabilly angle, these guys are hard to pigeonhole. Besides the Spanish lyrics, this piece of vinyl is highlighted by the frenetic speed on most tracks, decent Ska, C&W, Punk influences and general good rockin' vibes. To recommend two tracks from each side, I would like to suggest un Pobre Desgraciado, Un Muņeco En Tus Manos, Una De Hombre Lobo and Be-Bop-Ska.
Train Of Fools is another top-notch disc from this Catalonia-based combo. Similar to many UK bands from the 1980's, the three-piece outfit created a powerful rockin' sound, somewhere located in between Neorockabilly and authentic Psychobilly, without being a poor copy of any of those. Great and clear guitar playing, a wild stompin' rhythm section, a solid variation in themes and tempi and few songs, written in Spain make this Burning Producciones' offering a good complement to any (w)record collection. For first impressions check out Nacido Torcido, Neighbors Sound, Long Black Coat, Stolen Cars And Big Cigars, Una Balla Con Tu Nombre and Voodoo Man.
